Did you forget to mount /boot before you copied the kernel to /boot? If so, you are still booting the old kernel. The fix:

# mv /boot/bzImage /root
# mount /boot
# mv /root/bzImage /boot
# reboot

That might be the problem. Thanks for the tip. I did however, get alsa working. I had a typo in modules.d/alsa
