Tomorrow I'll buy a new NIC (I'm tired of USB-ADSL).

My question is can I buy whatever NIC I want or some NICs will not in
Linux?

Many cheap 100mbps cards are based on the Realtek 8139 (*makes sign of the Holy chipset*), which works fine using the 8139too driver. These are sold under many brandnames, so look for "8139" stamped on the largest chip on the card. if it's there then you'll be alright.

Stroller.
