it may sound like a bit of a windows solution. but i've found that sometimes,
the vmware modules, while built properly, don't work right 'till after a
reboot. if i understood more, i'd explain it, but i don't. try a reboot,
then this:
# /etc/init.d/vmware start
then try it out. if that doesn't work, i'm afraid i can't help you :-(
