The instructions are from Printable Linux Documentation--Configujring the
Kernel.  The specific instruction is under  Code listing 1: Installing a
kernel source:[exact inst as follows]
#  emerge --usepkg vanilla-sources

I have followed instructions as closely as possible to this point while some
have not been exactly accurate they were close enough that I was able to get
past the difficulty  but this appears to be what the writer wanted.
