I think that's a really good idea. There are a lot of HowTo's on the net
about linux-on-cd.
I used a HD for var/log and config (did this on a readonly mounted
partition).

In my opinion, Gentoo would be a very good choice for cd-linux because
of it's easy directory-install-system.

If you need some help, I'll look for my howto's, can't find them know...
