I have not this problem. Perhaps the permision of the files are not right?

See how I have them (I work without scsi emulation):

bash-2.05b$ ls /dev/cdroms/ -l
total 0
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           33 ene  1  1970 cdrom0 
-> ../ide/host0/bus1/target0/lun0/cd
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           33 ene  1  1970 cdrom1
