I'm more than a bit surprised by this comment. I've used linux distributions with and without SCSI emulation, and when I didn't have it, I never missed it. For k3b, I'm not sure if it's cdrdao or cdrecord that needs it, but the other doesn't. So you should be good to go even without SCSI.
