I suspect it should be "emerge -e world".  I guess this will only take
3-4 days :-)

Should it really be necessary to recompile everything when it is just a
new minor release of glibc.  It was still the same version number, just
an update from 2.3.2-r3 to 2.3.2-r9.  I supposed it was minor bug fixes
etc.

Anyway, the rest of my system is working fine, albeit a bit slower due
to the lack of prelinking.

I am used to updating glibc being painless on Red Hat, it should not be
worse on Gentoo :-) :-)
