Gentoo.org IS gentoo. And no, they can't, they don't operate the mail -> news gateway. It's also totally irrelevant anyway, as there is little doubt that spammers are subscribed to the group. There are also at least 2 mail -> web gateways archiving the list, and not munging addresses.
