True enough. But if you want to switch, I'd recommend mm-sources. I've 
been using it on my laptop (IBM TP R31) for a few months now and I don't 
have many problems with it. 

The odd time I get a kernel oops after its been left idling for awhile, 
it always happens when I come back to it after awhile, so I never have 
any clue what happened. Who knows, it could be a hardware issue and you 
might not see it.

In any case, make sure you create /sys for the sysfs filesystem. I didn't 
at first and couldn't out why I had errors during startup. (Maybe the 
newer .ebuilds take care of this for you--not sure).
