Hello List,
I am sending this from windows because I can't stand the static noise,
morse-code-like whistling, crackling and other irritating sounds from my
gentoo.
This started when I upgraded to kde3.2.0 using "~x86". I saw there was a bug
in module-init-tools and have tried the downgrade suggestion with no effect.
I added an option via82xx something to modules.d/alsa as suggested in
response to a similar complaint on the list to no avail.
The noise starts on boot when alsa is detected and is amplified with mouse
clicks, disk activity etc. It tapers off after about 15mins but is always
there in the background. Turning off alsasound has no effect. Trying various
settings in kcontrol sound system has no effect. On the alsa site there is a
suggestion to hash out a line in XF86Config-4 but the entry is not in my
XF86 Config file.
I removed kde3.1.4 in case there was a confliction with 3.2.0.
I have googled and noted others with the problem but no solution.
I have an asus a7n8x deluxe mobo with intel8x0 and via82xx sound. I am using
the 2.6.3-rc1-sparc kernel but the problem occurs in my 2.6.0-mm1 kernel as
well.
I am not keen to go through a major downgrade and reversion to kde 3.1. Nor
am I happy about a new install or permanent windows.
Can anyone suggest a fix please?
