$ emerge -pv licq

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild  N    ] net-im/licq-1.2.7  -kde -ncurses -qt -socks5 +ssl  3,327 kB

Total size of downloads: 3,327 kB

$ qpkg -I -v arts
$ qpkg -I -v kde
$ qpkg -I -v xfree
$ grep USE /etc/make.conf
# The USE variable is used to enable optional build-time functionality. For
# very extensive set of USE variables described in our USE variable HOWTO at
USE="-* acl apache2 berkdb cxx gdbm imap innodb kerberos krb4 ldap mysql nptl
pam pic perl sasl ssl threads xml"

See? No problem. It doesn't even wants xfree!!! Perhaps you need to recheck
your USE flags and/or the packages you emerged.

Norberto
