From only a cursory glance ntpl seems like a Good Thing (tm). is it very hard to enable it, if one has failed to bootstrap with it..?
I was able to bootstrap a 2.6 system with NPTL enabled without a problem. I never did much testing with the system as the drive got wiped when I migrated my installation on an 80GB to the 120GB hard drive. It got through the whole install without a problem, though.
