I've got an odd 2.6 kernel problem. If I plug in a USB 1.1 device my system will completely freeze. Only way to get out of it is a hard reset.
Background info: linux-2.6.3-rc2-mm1 (problem persistent since I started with a 2.6.1-mm1) MSI Hetis Barebone computer, BIOS is current. Intel 865G chipset 2.4G P4 1 GB RAM Nvidia Geforce MX PCI video card Onboard video disabled SATA HD CD-Burner with SCSI emulation on Was running a 2.4 kernel without problems. Upgraded to 2.6 and didn't notice this problem until I tried a Kensington USB 1.1 pendrive. It also happens with a generic USB 1.1 Bluetooth. USB 2.0 devices work fine. Have used both a USB 2.0 pendrive, a USB 2.0 HD and DVD-R drive without problems. Just installed a Mitsumi combo Floppy/flash card reader (USB 2.0) and it is running fine too. With UHCI enabled (OHCI disabled) it will lockup on insertion of a USB 1.1 device. With OHCI enabled (UHCI disabled) it doesn't lockup, but it also doesn't detect any device. With UHCI enabled (OHCI disabled) and hotplug disabled, it doesn't lockup. Seems some module that hotplug is loading is locking up the system. Can't get any diagnostic info since it locks up immediately. Nothing in the logs either, after reboot. Hotplug is current. I unmerged it and merged it back. There was a recent update and that didn't help. Hotplug with USB 1.1 devices works fine when booting the system off a 1.4 Live CD. I also have a Griffin Powermate which is USB 1.1. This was plugged in during boot. It is detected fine during boot and there is no problem as long as I don't unplug it and plug it back in (with UHCI/hotplug enabled), then it freezes. Haven't seen anyone with a similar problem on the forums or on the web. It may just be a quirk of this motherboard, though it works fine with a 2.4 kernel. I have resorted to only enabling EHCI, so I can only use USB 2.0 devices. I suspect the problem may just go away in a future kernel update. It is just a minor annoyance for me now that I figured out what doesn't work. Any suggestions? -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
