On Sat, 6 Mar 2004, Anuradha Ratnaweera uttered the following immortal words,
Gentoo is catching up very fast here in SL. The number of requests I get to borrow installation CDs is increasing.
But the problem is that once the installation is finished the lack of high bandwith connections in SLK, seriously limits gentoos further use.
I used Gentoo for about 10 months without a high-speed connection. I just left my internet connected overnight and had a cron job which would run 'emerge sync && emerge -uDf world' at 1AM. This would sync my portage tree and download all the files I would need to do a 'emerge -uD world'. The next morning, I could then run 'emerge -upDv world' for myself and update things.
