This is probably due to the fact that the tools for ext2/ext3 are a lot more
tried and tested. For what it's worth, I've been using ext3 and have never had a
problem with it. With the b-tree hashes (-O dir_index) it seems fast enough for
my use (a desktop/workstation/testbed server with multiple partitions spanning
two hard disks).
