and yet, clients still offer support for it.. duh!
1x1 pixel web bugs with tracking hashes are more accurate than return receipts! but then you have to read in HTML, which is overdone in and of itself.
In thunderbird 1.0, you can disable return receipts by:
Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Return Receipts:
+ Uncheck When sending messages, always request a return receipt
+ select, "Never send a return receipt" under "When I receive a request for a RR"
+ Click OK to save
