You're not forced into running the emerge --sync followed by emerge -uD world processes. If your box is working fine for you, then just leave it alone. Rely on the old saying "If it's not broke, don't fix it." It goes a long way, especially in the linux world. I'll typically only really upgrade kernels and packages with significant security fixes in them. The box doesn't need to be on the bleeding edge or even current - it has to work. -- [email protected] mailing list
