Well, no.  If he has an AMD, Intel, Ali, Sis, or nForce chipset, it will be 
i810. 
And if it's a VIA southbridge then it will be  such.

Assuming - make menuconfig -> drivers -> sound -> alsa -> PCI, 

         Select - Intel/SiS/nVidia/AMD/Ali AC97 controller
         or, for VIA - VIA 82C686A/B, 8233/8235 AC97 Controller

And make them modules <M>
