I added scanner to the /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.4, so this now contains printer and scanner modules.
I then rebooted to switch to the new kernel. It reported that printer and scanner both loaded successfully, but running xsane still resulted in no scanner found. libusb is installed at present. Is it safe to emerge --unmerge libusb, and is this likely to solve the problem? Also, there is an HP53xx scanner driver module in the kernel. Is this required for the PSC-750 scanner?
