You should wait before installing the ati-drivers, though-- the release date for the new and hopefully vastly improved drivers is tomorrow (Monday the 17th), and it may take a short while for 1) the ebuild to show up and 2) the servers to calm down (a lot of people are waiting anxiously for these drivers, me included).
