I did it all the steps needed: patched kernel (2.6.5), selected new options for
UDF, compiled it, have done all the rest, but when I tried to mount one
CR-RW of mine I got this:

01:34:43 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~ # mount /mnt/cdrw
mount: /dev/pktcdvd0 is not a valid block device

Anyone could tell me what this would mean, please? What "not a valid
block device" would mean?

* I created the device node:

# mknod /dev/pktcdvd0 b 97 0

* emerged/installed udftools,

* edited /etc/fstab

 /dev/pktcdvd0   /mnt/cdrw   udf   noauto,noatime,rw,users 0 0

* have done this too:

# mkdir /mnt/cdrw
# chmod 0777 /mnt/cdrw

* Rebooted to the new kernel

* Then done this:

If it's the first time you're mounting this cd, run (as root)
$ chmod 0777 /mnt/cdrw

* And at this point:

$ mount /mnt/cdrw

got this above about invalid block device.

* Also have edited /etc/conf.d/cdrw as:

cdrw_list="/dev/pktcdvd0"

* Have saved recommended file on the page as /etc/init.d/cdrw

* Made it executable

 # chown root.daemon /etc/init.d/cdrw
 # chmod 0770 /etc/init.d/cdrw

* Added it to the inittab

 # rc-update add cdrw default
