I've done that now. I had already started  vixie-cron and added it as
default at start but didn't have my own user cron job.

It certainly did, it's working fine now thanks. And thanks to everyone who
took the time to reply. I just love this Gentoo, I've learnt more in two
weeks than I have the past two years. Makes me wonder why I ever bought
every version of SuSE since 7.1. I need to borrow a van to carry all those
SuSE boxes to the tip, they weigh a ton :)
