Can you compile without distcc?  The bit about 'i386-pc-linux-gnu-gcc'
seems to indicate a make.conf typo to me, but I don't have my system
in front of me to check on it right now.

  

Well, yes I could compile without distcc.



However I took the consequence and installed Gentoo again this time
using i686-stage3 in order to get maching identifiers and it works -
sort of. I am now able to emerge some programs (emacs, nfs-utils
f.ex.), and even compile a new kernel using distcc. However some
programs get the libtool complaint that it is "unable to infer tagged
configuration" and this persists even without distcc.



I might post detailes and questiens when I have made som investigations into it myself.
