Using VMware the other day I noticed something. I was running a program I develop on both Linux and in VMware with 2000 Pro. The font rendering is noticeably better on Linux. It is darker, and less blurry.

Yup. Freetype-antialiasing works much better than windows ditto. I've can see that on my own system, since I'm using the same fonts and fontsizes in linux and windows. And in linux the fonts are just soooooo beautiful :-)
You wanna have your fonts looking the best they can? Go for freetype :-)
