I'll just have to trust you on that.  When I moved to Gentoo from WinXP, I 
started using X.org-6.8 from the start.  The only time I used XFree was 
back 5 years ago on a slackware installation.  [I abandoned linux for a 
number of years because of that experience; I was able to break X quckly 
but completely unable to fix it.]
