I am running kde 3.3.2 on an amd64. All packages are the latest "stable" amd64 ones except for the alsa ones which are ~amd64.
I'm having a few sound problems: 1. When I enable the sound system, there are no system notification sounds. I am able to get them working if I do Control center -> Sound and Multimedia -> System notifications -> Player settings -> Use external player -> artsplay. Why don't notifications work by default? Is this the correct way of enabling system notifications? 2. Frequently when I log in there is no sound. After a few minutes a dialog comes up saying "Sound server fatal error: cpu overload, aborting. I've had a few suggestions from a previous posting, but I haven't been able to get rid of this one. Unfortunately I haven't yet had a version of kde which has been free of obvious bugs. How does gnome compare?? I haven't spent much time with it. -- [email protected] mailing list
