Hello
This is my first post to this list.
I started to think that it would nice to try to install
Gentoo linux at home and start to learn how gentoo works.
I downloaded the lastest universal livecd, booted with
the parameters gentoo nodhcp (as I use pppoe with my isp)
pressed f2 and choose the numbers for a finnish keyboard.
I brought up the ethernet interface with ifconfig eth0 up
and ran adsl-setup and answered all the questions correctly.
Unfortunately, when I ran adsl-start the connection did not
come up - I include the results of DEBUG=1 adsl-start below.
The strange thing is that I have been running the following
OS's on this very machine and using pppoe to connect to the
internet:
SuSE 9.1
Knoppix 3.7
W2K
Also I have an old gentoo livecd, (which I downloaded many moons
ago) and have no problems getting my internet connection up with
it.
I suppose I am looking for some tips and wondering if anyone knows
of any problems with gentoo's pppoe setup. I saved copies of the
contents of /etc/ppp when using the lastest CD and when using the
old CD and have to say that they were pretty much the same. Anyway,
hope someone out there can be of help. I suppose I could continue to
install gentoo by coping files from the universal live CD or booting
with the old livecd or even another OS such as knoppix but I wanted
to sort out this problem with rp-pppoe before I continue just in case
I bump into it at a later stage.
Thx in advance!!!
