Knoppix has all you need, but it is a pain setting up RAID and LVM
Why is that?? I don't use knoppix (for this) but using Gentoo's LiveCD and modprobing dm-mod works for the LVM partitions.
I found it a pain because Knoppix does not come with the packages to use LVM at least by default. Knoppix is, afaik, the only LiveCD that allows you to install a very few packages to the RAMDISK, which is how I used it to set up my previous install of Gentoo with LVM partitions, using the Alternative install.
But it was rather annoying to install LVM and dev-mapper to the RAMDisk, so this time I have a temporary install of SuSE to do the Alternative (re-)install from.
Naturally the Gentoo LiveCD supports all this out of the box, but since an install takes me two days or so, I really do not want to be looking at a framebuffer console login that long (this is my only PC), so I prefer to do Alternative install.
