Did you try alsamixer or kmix? The modules seem fine at first glance.
To expand upon what Tamas said:
- Use either alsamixer or KMix (or both) to make sure that:
1) the Microphone channel is unmuted (in alsamixer there will be M-M above a muted channel, hit 'M' to unmute it; in KMix, the green light above the channel on the Input tab will be dark if muted, click the green light to light it up and thus unmute-- don't forget to raise the level of the channel above 0 in either case)
2) the Microphone channel is set to be the recording channel (in KMix, click the red light below the channel to light it up and set it to be the recording channel, in alsamixer I don't know how you set a recording channel; it may be set automatically as the recording device if you unmute the microphone, but you can probably read the man page or Google for the procedure).
