make a mailman install successful after an emerge, then shouldn't the
gid of the daemon group be the default in the ebuild? I found the
daemon's gid and changed mail_gid in the ebuild that Gentoo wanted to
install and am emerging it now. Is any other setup required than that
listed in README.gentoo in the doc directory? After the emerge
finishes, will I have to go through README.gentoo and do the steps
listed there again or will my last run-through suffice?
There is already a bug report for this. You can read it at http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45439. The short of it is that the bug was closed as invalid because (it seems) that there is mention of the problem in some of the installed docs. Then it was reopened because someone pointed out that you can't read that until you've already installed a broken mailman. The bug is still open with current suggested fixes being running all MTAs with the same gid and adding USE flags for each MTA to mailman.
