Yes, it is maintained.
Yes, there is info on the website.

problems with GNOME 2.

No workarounds.  Works fine.

One alternative is KMyMoney2.

IMHO, gnucash is the most mature, dependable, feature-rich personal finance
application for Unix.  I recommend it very highly.
