Ok I was wrong it is still that way. I use gmail for my collection and storing of mail. I use Thunderbird on my system to download and read the mail. I use my ISP as the outgoing SMTP server. Because I do not send mail directly through gmail I have not noticed the problem for a long time. I do stand corrected.
