my normal mouse is ps/2 and this one is USB, so that won't work for me. I am going to try using the I-Pen as the only mouse (comment out the main mouse in XF86Config), and see how that goes.
Why not? Both map to /dev/psaux or /dev/input/mouse0.
I have configered one pointer for xorg (should also work with xfree?), but I use 2 or more pointers (ps2 / USB mixed). The magic thing is that the linux-kernel combines all pointers in /dev/input/mice. On this device you can use the imps/2 Protocol, configure Zaxismapping or any thing else.
