At boot, I get the following after "Caching service dependencies":

followed by similar lines for modules, checkfs and localmount.
Then, e2fsck cannot run - "mounted file system", "Give root pswd" or Control
D. I booted from a Knoppix disk, ran fsck and no errors. If I give the
root paswd or Control D, the system seems to run OK. I'm in it now.
