Not sure what doexec does. I have the impression from this thread I found that console-tools is an alternative to the kbd package in gentoo, but that there are some differences (again, not sure of details).

It's also mentioned in the following Gentoo ebuilds in association with something referred to as the loadkeys fiasco (?):
vanilla-sources-2.0.40.ebuild vanilla-sources-2.2.26.ebuild usermode-sources-2.4.26-r12.ebuild
It's not mentioned in the ebuilds for the later versions of these sources, so I guess the problem with loadkeys was resolved in some other way in them.
