Zoneminder has been mentioned to me. It's masked, but, you can use cvs to
install
version 1.20. Good documentation on the website. I have not gotten it working,
but, I'm waiting on some new video capture cards.

/usr/src/linux/Documentation/video4linux/CARDS* might help with ensuring your
capture cards work. XawTV is deprecated (Came) is replacing it. Most
everything
I've found, needs cvs downloads and compiling to get a relatively new version
working. I'm working on using ffmepg to stream low bandwidth remote video
over WAN links, trying to use H.264 or Mpeg4_part10 (AVC), but it's far from
being completed.....

THe ffmpeg site at sourceforge lists players that use ffmepg(all sorts of
encoding
and codec options), but, again you'll find yourself cvs-compiling to get
 something
decent working....If if find out otherwise, let me know....

Which capture card(s) are you using?
