Yes, I have had that problem. Unfortunately, I have no idea what causes it or what to do about it. It's irritating, but non-critical, and since it does not seem to happen under other DM's such as KDE or other WMs such as Openbox, I assume it's a GNOME issue.

This is supported by the workaround I use; when the logoff does not appear in a timely manner, open gnome system monitor (which should open promptly), then attempt to close it. When I attempt to close gnome system monitor (without even doing anything to the processes it's showing, though you are free to manage those if necessary), the logoff dialog appears immediately. It almost seems like there's a stuck process that opening/closing gnome system monitor causes to 'unstick'-- but that process is not visible as 'stuck' in gnome system monitor (this is how I had wound up choosing gnome system monitor in the first place; in order to see if some zombie process was slowing down the logout process).

So that's pretty much my sum of knowledge about this issue. I'm hoping that it will be fixed in GNOME 2.10 (whenever that becomes available); I've noticed this in both 2.6 and 2.8, but don't really remember it in 2.4.

HTH,

Holly
