Hi,

you can't mount an extended partition - it's just a container for logical
partitions. The logical partitions are the ones to be mounted.

I admit, hanging the whole system is rather bad behaviour for the kernel -
otoh: why should anyone mount a partition that does not contain any valid
filesystem?
