[gentoo-user] AMD64 Emerge System Freezes

The subject pretty much says it all.  I'm doing an alternate install,
booting Knoppix and then the Gentoo install.  All goes fine until i
"emerge system".  It runs for several minutes then freezes.  I've
tried several times, all with the same result.  Anyone?
