Hi

I've been struggling with pam.d configurations all day long and
couldn't fix this annoying problem. And it is happening on a Gentoo
Linux Server Box that serves Yellow Pages for a 100 PCs network!

You can happily login using only the first 8 characters of your
password and even type whatever you want after the 8th!

Tryed /etc/pam.d/passwd whith (from
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-security.xml) :

auth required pam_unix.so shadow nullok
account required pam_unix.so
password required pam_cracklib.so difok=3 retry=3 minlen=10 dcredit=2 ocredit=2
password required pam_unix.so md5 use_authtok
session required pam_unix.so

And nothing changes.

Desperate for hints.

"A recent study has found that concentrating on difficult off-screen
objects, such as the faces of loved ones, causes eye strain in computer
scientists. Researchers into the phenomenon cite the added concentration
needed to "make sense" of such unnatural three dimensional objects."
