Even after syncing, I still don't get any make.defaults, so eix is now broken:

# eix -u
Updating eix database in /var/cache/eix
Using portage cache: /usr/portage/metadata/cache/
varsreader.cc:309 Can't open file
/etc/../usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2005.0/make.defaults No
such file or directory

Well, eix is broken anyway if it expects there to be a make.defaults in every profile directory.
