You do not need alsa-driver because the drivers are now in the
kernel.

I'm not familiar with alsaconf, but AFAIR (I have read its
code once) it tries to modprobe the driver, so modules can be
helpful for alsaconf.
OTOH, if you have statically compiled the driver for your
card, you will not need alsaconf.

You also need alsa-lib. Then add ALSA to your default runlevel
and start it.
Then do a cat proc/proc/asound/cards.
If your card isn't there, run alsaconf.
