I found a few bugs but this one seems to match http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85802
I dont see a workaround at the moment so am falling back to 2.6.10 for a quiet life ;)
There is a workaround: Don't use the inbuilt kernel AGPGART. (the nvidia driver will install its own NvAGP driver instead)
