No, they're actually called Version Control Systems;, frequently shortened to VCS's or V.C.S.'s; CVS is just one (brand) of many.

(BTW I don't know exactly what, if anything!, "CVS' stands for -- never bothered to learn yet, but 'cvs' *is* a 'vcs'.)
(At Least In English! (my native language) -- I do know that other languages order things differently, which may just explain 'cvs'...! :) )
