Well, the FontPath messages are 'normal', and will not cause the server
to fail to start.  Most likely, the PCI ID is wrong (use lspci to
check), or the monitor refresh settings are overdriving your monitor and
causing the monitor to turn off.  For the first case, check lspci and
/var/log/Xorg.0.log. 

For the second, you will need to change the HorizSync and VertRefresh
settings to match your monitor.  Note that it can *damage* a monitor to
overdrive it, so you should *never* use these settings from someone
else.  Modern monitors have a protection circuit to avoid damage from
overdriving, but it is still a bad idea to test that circuit.

What I really recommend is to just run "X -configure", and let X.org
autodetect everything, including the capabilities of your monitor.  It
may get a few things sub-optimal (see a very recent thread about
configuring X for a Radeon card on this list), and you will probably
have to make some edits, which is where Bill's config will come in
useful for comparison.
