I hope it would be clear to folks that musicians are not metronomes. There is no specific BPM for any complete song other than those that played by computers. (A general statement but you get the drift...) BPM is something that is changing almost every few measures. Songs speed up and slow down, whether by design or just by natural human playing. Asking for a single specific BPM number is going to result in a single numeric answer for a very limited number of songs. Now, there are tools (not sure about Linux) that will attempt to extract beats and make a tempo map that can be used by sequencers, etc., but the BPM is a variable and changes every few measures. Acid Pro (a windows app) has this stuff built in. Run it against a song sometime and you'll see what a mess tempo can be... Cheers, Mark -- [email protected] mailing list
