If i restore single files i can no longer be sure if they are still consistent with the rest of the new xorg. Anyway, you did not answer my question: Why not make font-server the default? What's the use in seperating it at all? This really seems to me a pointless change that only breaks existing setups.
Also, emerge --verbose --ask only help if you know what you are looking for. I porbably would have overlooked the "-font-server" especially when upgrading lots of packages.
