I have also made a few posts to the list that go unanswered, however I simply assume that my queries go unanswered due to the nature of them ie possible hardware problems and not an actual gentoo problem.
There are also various forums which I use such as forums.gentoo.org and www.net-forums.net and various irc channels as well such as #gentoo on irc.freenode.net and #planetnix on irc.nixus.org One cannot assume that because the support is free, all your queries are going to be answered. We are all learners :-) when I have aproblem I try this mailing list 1st, then I give it a day then enquire on the forums, then as a last resort go ask nicely in one of the irc channels I mentioned.
