It is possible to do, but you need to make sure that you are using the most up-to-date wrapper available on the VMWare ftp site. Search the VMWare forums for a link to "vmwaredsp". I am using vmwaredsp-1.2. Older versions (and wrappers provided in other packages) don't override the 64-bit file operations that VMWare now uses. Also, you must use >=glibc-20050125-r1.
